Meet Rooted Hire:
The nonprofit executive recruitment experts.
We're an experienced team of nonprofit insiders.
We've sat in your seat and seen firsthand what the wrong hire costs an organization.
Rooted Hire exists because mission-driven organizations deserve a search partner who knows the sector from the inside out.
How we work.
As nonprofit experts, we approach every search with three things in mind.
Your hiring process reflects your values.
Every touchpoint tells candidates who you are as an organization. We make sure it tells the right story.
Candidates are people, not pipelines.
The person you don't hire today may donate or refer someone tomorrow. We treat every one of them accordingly.
The hire is just the beginning.
Getting someone in the role is one thing. Setting them up to succeed is another. We care about both.
Meet the team.
When you work with us, you work with us. Get to know the people behind your search.
BRITTNY WILSON
— CEO & Head Recruiter
Brittny Wilson spent 25 years in the nonprofit sector, mostly in fundraising leadership, before founding Rooted Hire. Time on the inside gave her a front-row seat to what breaks down in nonprofit hiring: great candidates lost to slow timelines and organizations repeating the same expensive mistakes. An Ohio native (go Buckeyes!) and graduate of Ohio Wesleyan, Naropa University, and the Institute for Leaders in Development at the University of Denver, she built the firm she wished had existed when she was on the other side of the table.
COURTNEY SCHWARTZ — Recruitment Specialist
Courtney Schwartz, former Director of Programs, brings over 20 years of nonprofit sector experience to every search. As a Certified Professional Resume Writer and founder of A Foot in the Door Consulting, she knows what a strong application looks like from the candidate's side, which makes her exceptionally good at identifying the right people from a crowded pool. As a rival Michigander (go Blue!) and University of Denver MSW graduate, Courtney is committed to making the hiring journey clear and navigable for everyone in it.
MEGAN MERRITT COOKE — Interim Development Specialist
Megan Merritt Cooke has spent 25+ years leading fundraising efforts across higher education, healthcare, the arts, and community development, including multimillion-dollar major gifts, grants, and annual fund campaigns. As founder of CORE Philanthropy, she now partners with nonprofits as a fractional fundraising leader and strategist. She brings something a brand-new hire simply can't: pattern recognition from the inside of dozens of organizations. Her guiding belief is that great fundraising is about helping people do something meaningful with their resources.
CAROLINE LANDRY
— Interim Development Specialist
Caroline Landry has been fundraising for 15 years. She started at The Children’s Hospital Foundation as an Annual Fund Officer. She was Director of Development at Friends’ School, where she worked on the Annual Fund, built a Major Gifts program and completed an Endowment Campaign. At the Community Foundation, Caroline worked as a Major Gifts Officer, which included working with fundholders, donors, and financial advisors. She volunteers at EFAA and Social Venture Partners.
